Nestled in the heart of Riverton, WV, stands a building rich with history, a place that has served as a cornerstone of our community for generations. This historic storefront has seen countless stories unfold within its walls—family businesses, community gatherings, and a connection to a time when small towns thrived on their local culture and commerce. But today, this building faces an uncertain future. Without urgent structural repairs and restoration, it risks becoming another lost relic of the past. That’s why we are launching a crowdfunding campaign—to preserve its history, restore its beauty, and bring new life to our community.
For over a century, this structure has been more than just brick and mortar (rather, rocks and wood); it has been a vital gathering place. As one of the longest-standing commercial buildings in the area, it has witnessed the town’s growth, hardships, and resilience. Originally constructed and owned by a family whose roots run deep in Riverton’s history, it has remained in their hands for generations—until now. As the first new owners outside of that family, we feel an immense responsibility to honor its past and ensure its future.
Our goal is to not only restore the building but to rekindle its role as a hub for the community. We plan to live in the residential quarters and revive the storefront as a coffee shop and roastery, a place where locals and travelers alike can gather, share stories, and experience the warmth of small-town hospitality. With a strong background in the coffee industry, we are confident that this business will be sustainable and serve as a meaningful addition to Riverton.
The building is in desperate need of structural stabilization to prevent further deterioration. Time and the elements have taken their toll, and without immediate intervention, this historic site could be lost forever. The restoration process includes three critical phases:
Structural Repairs: Reinforcing the foundation, stabilizing walls, and securing the roof to prevent collapse.
Sanitary and Safety Updates: Ensuring that the building is safe and habitable, addressing plumbing, electrical, and other essential systems.
Cosmetic Restoration: Preserving the original character while making necessary improvements to ensure longevity and usability.
We are applying for grants and loans designed for historical preservation, many of which require us to contribute matching funds. As everyday people—not investors or developers—we are reaching out for support to help bridge the financial gap. Every dollar raised in this campaign will go directly toward the necessary work to restore this landmark.
Across the country, small towns like Riverton are vanishing—replaced by generic corporate chains that erase the character and history of these once-thriving communities. Local businesses, historic landmarks, and gathering places are being lost to time, leaving behind empty storefronts and fading memories. This is about more than just one building—it’s about taking a stand against the decline of small-town America. By restoring this landmark, we are pushing back against the forces that would see unique, history-rich places like Riverton disappear forever. Preserving this building means preserving a way of life, a community spirit, and a local economy that values people over profit.
We believe that small communities thrive when people come together to preserve their heritage. Your contribution, whether big or small, will make a lasting impact on Riverton’s future. Here’s how you can get involved:
Donate: Every contribution helps bring us one step closer to saving this piece of history.
Share: Spread the word by sharing this campaign with friends, family, and history lovers who might want to help.
Follow Our Journey: We will be posting regular updates on our progress, including details on the grants we receive and the work being done.
Together, we can ensure that this historic building continues to stand, not just as a relic of the past, but as a living, thriving part of Riverton’s future.
